  • Its Time to Shift Your Focus - Take It From Me, A Local Regina Real Estate Agent

"It is impossible to focus on one thing and see another."

As a local Regina Real Estate Agent, I am fairly in tune with my surroundings and what is going on in my community. These last few weeks have been nothing short of turbulent in nature and unpredictable while Reginan’s try to navigate life living through a pandemic.

My heart hurts for those who have been directly affected by COVID-19. Not to mention, everyone in our community trying to live life as normal as possible when it is far from it.

After weeks of waking up and tuning into the news, I realized I was doing more harm, than good, for myself. I was continually seeking out the negative and in turn, saw a decline in both my mental and physical health. I wasn’t checking up with the news in a healthy manner. I was obsessing over it, and it started to consume me. My priorities were skewed, and I wasn’t spending as much time as I should be focusing on work, my family and friends—or my dogs for that matter. It was last week when I came to the stark realization that I needed to change my focus, and I needed to do it quick.

My hope for this blog article, as a Regina Real Estate Agent?

To bring some positivity into our community.

Everything seems to be turned upside down and we have been forced to change our daily routines. Almost everyone has been experiencing some type of emotion in regard to health, the economy and the uncertainty we will likely face in the coming weeks. I encourage you to ride these waves of emotions and try to find your silver lining in this crazy world.

This may feel like a setback and is likely uncomfortable. Mark my words though, if we shift our mindset to see the positives of our current situation that we are able to control instead of focusing on the negatives that we have no control over, our lives will change for the better.

We are fortunate to live in a country where technology is easily accessible. Yes, we have all been inundated with COVID-19 news lately. Yes, the increase in cases and deaths around the world is nothing short of terrifying.

Now is the time to focus on the positives and stay mentally strong. We have access to online shopping, grocery pick-up and delivery services, Zoom Meetings, emails and a plethora of online learning resources. We live in a city where our population is spread out. We live in a province where our government is taking every measure that they believe is necessary to curb the spread of this virus.

Trust me, I understand that spring isn't going as planned. I too, had social commitments lined up. They all fell through within the span of an hour. But—instead of resisting this inevitable change—I say—let's embrace it.

Yes, your schedule is off kilter. Yes, your childcare commitments and work-life balance likely feels a blur.

Remember that this is only temporary. Use this time as an opportunity to learn that skill you have always dreamed of doing but haven't yet done due to time restraints. Read the book that's been on your to-do list or listen to a new podcast. This is the perfect opportunity to take time for yourself and your family amidst the chaos.

I know that physical distancing feels inconvenient and confining, but this too shall pass. Let's focus on the positives and we will come out of this stronger than ever.
